    "A poem to my mother"

    "A poem to my mother"

My instinct told me to react abruptly.
To put everything on hold for her indefinitely
See my heart sings tunes that only her heart can dance too,
I was the other half to her,
in other words I was nothing without her,
I just wanted her to live
so that she could dance with me physically,
But she found that she could
only live happily ever after spiritually,
And literally I disagreed MOST defiantly
    not excepting fates destiny,
So I begged, cried, and to GOD I prayed,
That she could just stay until I lived to be old & gray,
Because I painted this picture in my head,
And never the one that lead me to the foot of her bed,
While leading me to take her by the hand,
I watched in agony as my mother & friend
    took her last breath,
So now I must see if I can past life’s test,
And lay my mind to rest
that I can still dance with her by all means,
    It’s just that now,
we dance & play music only in my dreams!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
