    Rant

Oh my nation, my country, my country men and women and boy men and girl men and white men and black men and brown men and yellow men and red man and what have you. Could you spare a moment and help a fellow patriot who has noticed something queer?

It may be that I’m getting old, a generation thing, or I might have slowly gone insane with all my wondering, about the way that life is turning out, to have a harsher ring.

The work place is becoming our life place, do you know what I am saying? Our time is spent in scurry to appease the company who considers us a resource, just the new commodity. No longer individuals but a member of a team. Words like team work and competitive edge or wage are starting to make me gag a little.

When did the company become more important then the people who work there? Did I miss a memo?

Is this OK with you my countrymen my brothers? Are you aware that competitive wage means not enough to live on?

Is your answer " You should have got an education"? Because if it is, I must feel sad and sorry for you, because you are a fool. What you are basically saying is that if you choose to do the menial things that must indeed be done in this modern society you deserve to struggle and your children deserve to suffer for it. After all, any sane man knows that a janitor or a maid or a laborer or what have you don’t deserve a decent safe life, right?

You my friend are what’s known as an obnoxious prick.

I am almost sure that’s alright with you, as this also has become the norm and the expected in the new and somewhat scary America.

What’s that you say, all you have to do to get ahead in this country is to work hard? Who told you that? Was it ‘de massa? Do ‘de massa work hard? I’m pretty sure all he do is ride aroun ‘de plantation all the live long day bitcin about how lazy the slaves are. But then again the massa is a better person then the rest of us isn’t he, after all he had an IDEA he has VISION and he has THE WILL. The rest of us just provide the labor and the actual doing of the thing, he obviously deserves way way way more then the rest of us. Praise Jesus, Amen. Thank God for ‘de massa’s, with out them the rest of us would suffer. Wait a minute, aren’t some of us suffering now? Well you know what I mean. What’s that you don’t suffer? Well that is indeed good news, because I thought every body spent most of there life getting ready for work, driving to work, being at work , driving home from work and getting to bed early enough to get to work the next day. I thought dad and mom both had to work in order to make enough to afford the cars and clothing they needed to use to get to work and be at work. I thought our children were being raised by girls named Lisa and Peggy whom we never met, who make a competitive wage at Kinder care. Silly me. I thought we all had to dash home in the evening and rushed to get dinner on the table, do a little house work and run into the bedroom in order to pop out the next generation of working class people. I guess I was wrong. Never mind. This is the best we can come up with?

Oh my country men, Oh my brothers.
