Sestina- God’s inferno

Are you walking in planes of Hell?

Stumbling blindly, praying for life,

Whilst up above they roam in Heaven,

But still you wander in faith and hope,

That he shall hear from halls of Death,

When now at last in vain you turned to God.

He who you would now call God,

Who sent you deep into depths of Hell,

After committing sin you went to death,

Who took away your vengeful life,

And now it seems when you are out of hope,

They will look down at you from Heaven.

Oh, now you have a belief in Heaven,

When in life you lost faith in God,

You turned to anger, lust, hate, in a loss of hope,

And was sent down for your troubles into pits of Hell,

And now you mourn what was a pitiful life.

Remember when you lay in fear of Death,

When illness had struck and you were close to Death,

You knew you had lost your place in Heaven,

As you knew the life you led was no life,

At all. And all you had left was a false faith in God,

Who rightly spurned you to Lucifer in Hell,

As you screamed out your faith vainly in hope.

All you have left is to cling to hope,

When you know you’re stuck in never ending death,

Forced to roam the caverns of this hellish hell,

That has no life nor joy nor heaven,

You wish you had turned your faith to God,

So he would have granted you eternal life.

This has become your waking life,

You’re resigned to it now with no love or hope,

You have realised your mistakes, and say sorry to God,

Who still turns blindly and sends out Death,

Whilst he stands proudly at the gates of Heaven,

You stare up futilely from your home of Hell.

Forever in Hell, you should never have lost hope,

Nor given up on God and Life. Now all your company,

Is the angel of Death, who delivers the better ones to Heaven.

It's dark and moody and atmospheric and deep and I Love it

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
