Silence falls

Silence falls

Silence falls
As snowflakes
On Christmas Day

Welcomed and expected
Beautiful yet cold

My mind
Becomes
My chapel

Still and serene
Reverent yet hollow

I sip tea
With my
Former selves

Discussing life
And
Where it led us

Being warmed
By
The fire
Of
My imagination

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
