Soldier Unpredictable

A hug you never want to end,

To another soldier they are going to send.

You hold on tight as you dont want to let go,

Because you never truly know if at your next meeting they will show.

You embrace every moment together,

As you show your love for them, and promise its forever.

You push the negative out of your mind, as you just try to be at peace,

But its so hard when you know what’s ahead, as your feelings you slowly release.

An eye or two crying a million tears,

Their absence in your life feels like a million years.

One soldier’s choice, another’s dreaded draft,

Sent off to a complete different world of craft.

What lies ahead, comes in and out of your mind,

You can’t help but think of the memories from time to time.

Your scared to death every second, and every day of your life,

As you wonder how anyone could every be strong enough to make this kind of sacrifice.

You go about your days, as you try to make yourself feel better,

But nothing compares to your happiness, when you open the mailbox to that letter.

You read their words, as they describe what their going through,

As they explain their tremendous gratitude, and love present for you.

You can tell by the words written that they are literally living every day as if it’s their last,

As they defy how their only hope for this is that it will go by fast.

The words tell me, that its far worse than anyone’s imagination travel,

Seeing people die right in front of their eyes, but always leaving you baffled.

You get the letters here and there, but always at different frequencies,

Your heart sinks every instance of taking a little bit longer to receive.

You can only hope that the words will keep at a constant flow,

But the truth is what will happen tomorrow, you never know.

At your next meeting, some show

With loved ones waiting, and their seeing their face making you glow.

Happiness, kisses, hugs, tears, but all full of grateful love,

As those look around, and see there are others looking above.

They are crying and asking, “why god, why?!”

For their loved one had not come home,

As the love for them, had done nothing in the absence, but grown.

The fact of the matter is, different consequences happen, with the the given situation,

Some soldiers come back home fine, some injured, and some with their lives taken.

All in all, each soldier, stood up for our country, and for what they believed was right,

Even if standing up for beliefs, meant to put up a fight.

So lets not forget, to remember our past, fallen, or present soldiers,

Say a prayer, raise a flag, and remember that there will never be anyone bolder.

A truly great write for our soldiers...be they wounded, dead or alive.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
