    Sweet Dreams

I stroll through fields of honeydew and sugar roses.
    The fragrance of my dreams.
Amid colorfull skies, I yell proclamations.
As herald of reality, I rule here...paramount of my unconsciousness.
Vanilla winds and chocolates dunes create dances of intimate disposition.
Beautiful to behold, yet ethereal in their shape.
Rivers of golden strawberries, sliced pineapple trees,
Laurels and forget-me-nots wafting on the breeze.
    Honey dreams...
    Dripping, oozing, pleasingly sweet.
    Inviting, enticing, delicately petite.
    Careful...
For if I try to reach,
My dreams may try to leave me.
    Hastingly retreat.
Drawn by a phaeton of syrup,
Carried on clouds of powdered sugar
    My sweet dreams.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
