That Old Cypress Tree

Poem Commentary

This poem is meant to be a song about love.

That Old Cypress Tree

It all started on a summer night, like it was meant to be, one boy and one girl, meeting in this big spinning world, we laughed, we talked, we walked barefoot in the cool green grass, your hand in mine that was when we stopped and we found what became our own special spot...we kissed for the first time and that is when I knew my heart was no longer mine.

We made love under that Cypress Tree...it was like it was meant to be, the world stopped and there was just you and me as the stars aligned in the sky, it felt so right on that warm summer night, the moon shined down and I saw your eyes under heavens skies. As we made love, like it was meant to be...under that beautiful Cypress Tree.

As time stood still, I didn't know what we feel, but we discovered love for the first time, so sweet, passion, it was so fine. I can still feel the breeze on our bodies under that tree. It was that night that love was in sight, and I knew I would never be the same as forever had changed. It must have been a dream, how such a special thing could be.

God in heaven knew this love was meant for you and me, our secret world under this precious tree, that is where it all started on that summer night of the love that would last the rest of our life. We visit that old Cypress Tree on every anniversary where we marked our names, with your hand in mine while the stars in heaven all aligned, in the middle of a heart to mark where we got our start. As long as this tree stands and weathers the storms that come, I pray we hold strong in our love as one women and one man.

Yes, I will never forget...
