    The Fallen Sestina

*There is a skewed perception of how accommodating a woman should be for a man. With no attempt at being amiable and every resource spent to conceal his true feelings, man has constantly proved to be the downfall of the female gender as well as the eradication of its most humane qualities. Since the beginning of man, from the time of Adam and Eve, man has felt a need to control and dominate the fairer female sex with a zealous passion. This is where man has fallen and this poem is where one woman takes her stand.

    If only he were Amiable
    And not so vaguely Vivid
    He wouldn’t be my Downfall,
    He couldn’t cause my Eradication!
I’ve never seen someone so Baleful
Such feelings would seem quite Zealous

Its not that I am jealous
    I’ve only ever been Amiable
    Could never be accused baleful
And yet, My plight is all too vivid
I Will not become his solution/salvation!
Like the apple, I shall be his ultimate downfall.

    And when he’s fallen
I’m sure he will be jealous
    I have surely found salvation
    Since I’ve always been amiable
In feelings that are Oh so insipid.
    This predicament is awfully wonderful

    Constable!
    He has fallen!
    The view so vivid!
    With hearts so zealous
    And minds oh so amiable
    What happened to salvation? Eradication.

    “T’was his eradication,”
    Said the uncomfortable constable,
“Upon terms which were unlikely amiable,
That this unfortunate man has somehow fallen.”
*Deep in my heart I felt it, I was very much jealous
For though it came to naught, in the end it was Oh so vivid!

    For the amiable fallen,
    No salvation so wonderful
As the vivid scene between the Jealous.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
