    The Family Tree

A sturdy base that cannot be broken
It drops it's seeds when the time is right
A family grows without words spoken
But late in fall, by the dark of night

A small seed falls, unplanned, unwelcome
The seeds that fell at the expected time
    Are growing tall
    And doing just fine.

The smallest seed that fell so late
    Grows in the shadows
Of the taller ones who seem so great
The tiny seed just went unnoticed

As the forrest grew called our family tree
The older ones always seemed much taller
The one that came late was always smaller

The original tree aged and died
It left the younger ones to remain
The tiny seed felt that life had lied
There seemed no reason for it's life to be retained

Growing slow in the dark of the shadows
It grew up alone and didn't seem to belong
As time went by with no need for the smaller
The truth came out that it would live longer

As the branches broke on the taller trees
As the roots dried out harming it's leaves
The small one grew strong and as big as those trees
Until one day the family sees

The tall ones leaned on one another
The small tree was just a bother
As the tall ones grew older and became weak
They began to lean on the smaller tree

The tall ones had always given it shelter
But the small one was ther when they faltered
It was finally needed and not such a bother

Nursing the tall ones and giving them care
With the small one still wondering why it was there
After so many years of wondering why
The small tree grew and could look in their eves

Then one day a speceil thing happened
The small tree knew why it was planted
    Without the strong unbreakable tree
The taller ones needed that small unwanted tree

The seed that was planted so late in their lives
Who had always had doubts about why it survived
With the large tree gone they all needed care
And the small tree gives it with Love, Sunshine, and Air

With the help that was needed by the tall
The small tree grew and gave it's all

And one day it realixed, It's purpose was clear
The small tree knew why it was need and dear
The small tree was there for a reason you see
To Love and take care of the taller trees
