THE ORPHANED SHOE

THE ORPHANED SHOE

Lately, I feel like an orphaned shoe,
walking through life without my other.

It seems I have a broken sole
and I am useless without my mate.

At one time, we used to make a great pair,
walking side by side - without a care.

I remember when we were new,
there was no place I would go.
without seeing you.

The years have past, as we have gotten older,
and our looks have all but faded away.

We have traveled many miles never being apart,
That's because we were made for each other
right from the start.

Then one day - someone misplaced my mate,
and the only thing I can do is sit and wait.

I sit and wait, half of my tongue hanging out,
for without you I am useless, that is no doubt.

Stuck in this closet and left to smother -
I believe you have forgotten me,
as your sole belongs to another.

Oooh, this is my favorite one! I love it. It's so simple, and so sweet! And such an original analogy. I've never considered it before, and I'm glad that you did!

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
