Poem Commentary

Remembering an old dear friend who reminded me always to treasure life and its simplest of pleasures

The Simple Life's Pleasures

The Simple Life's Pleasures
by Dale Garrow

As I mature
And age
It brings me back
To a simpler time
And I again remember
An old friend, a sage.

An old man he was too me
He lived to the ripe old age
Of ninety-three
Barely educated he recalled
On the sun porch chair
The many times I visited, to learn.

He had farmed near seventy years
I recollected
From the conversations held
By lantern light
With his young wife
He treasured
Enjoying the simple life's treasures.

One could learn
From that old sage
Today, if only they could only hear
Lost now in a web entrapped
Losing sight and knowing
Wrong from right,
One's measure
And to enjoy the simple life's pleasure

This is magnificent! Well written and expressed! It takes me where I need to go! kudos my friend!

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
