    Poem Commentary

This poem is of a hopital setting, I was a phlebotomist for 18 years and worked the midnight shift and trust me many nights I heard the quiet, and the sadness from newborns to the emergency room and surgery, alot of deaths and alot of saved lives but one thing for sure alot of people never said I LOVE YOU before the one they loved was gone.. dont ever forget those 3 POWERFUL WORDS EVERY SINGLE DAY.

    The SOUND of DEATH

    As the clock approaches midnight
I walk the halls in a sanitary fashion
Each room dims light on each patient
    they groan with seamless passions

I watch there chest breath slowly
their pains groan into the hallways
the bells ring for help me
and there is nothing I can do or say

The young and old are here
    from newborns to 100
some will make it and some will not
And the floors will fill with tears

Loved ones will get the call
I am sorry, your loved ones gone
and some will stand by there sides
    From daylight until dawn

Some will say its the way it is
    and some will not
    Some wished they had said
    I LOVE YOU
    Before they had to part.

Remember one day you may be
    in that long dark hallway
don't take for granted what you see
and say I LOVE YOU  before you PART

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
