    This I Know

You are the lighthouse in the storm
when I have lost my way.
You light my course, and lead me on
so I will not go astray.
You are the rock I cling to
    in times of my despair.
You never fail to head my call
    despite the sins I bear.
You shield me from the storm of life
    that at times encompass me.
Without your guidance, and your aid
I know not what I'd be.
And yet despite the sins, and faults
    that never seem to flee.
I truly know within my heart
you bear a love for me.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
