    TO MY DARLING DAUGHTER

    TO MY DARLING DAUGHTER

Darling, letting go is the hardest thing to do.
I thought surely the time isn’t now…how about in a year or two?
Could it have been that long ago that I held you in my arms?
Holding you close, away from any harm?
    Alas, I guess I just didn’t think.
That my little girl grew up…time passed too quickly, just like a blink.
Moms always like to hover and protect their young in many different ways.
And I never knew it would be so hard to face this special day.
Dear daughter, I give you the world and all its glory.
Each new day has a different story.
Please be safe and stay away from harm.
Please don’t give me any reason to be alarmed.
It is very hard to let you go.
So please give me lots of calls…let me be “in the know”.
Honey, I wish you all the best.
Eat healthy and make sure you rest.
Oh, I know you have heard this so many times before,
Forgive me dear daughter…you, I so adore.
I feel like I have lost my best friend…
But, I know, without a doubt, this parting is the best…in the end.
You are free, my darling daughter, fly high!
There is no limit to what you can do…so reach for the sky!
My love will always be with you.
Leave a bit of legacy in all you do!
My hope for you is much so much hope, joy, peace, and love.
Don’t forget to seek help from above.
Okay, I cut the cord…Let’s see what you can do…
I am so proud of you!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
