Poem Commentary

i found this after cleaning out my drawer!

Twas the night before

twas the day before 7th grade, no more hanging out under a hot tree's shade.
all sleepovers are over and summer is too, new clothes have been bought and maybe a shoe.
the girls  are trying out new clothes, trying to find a signature pose.
boys are wistfully trading out their games, and thinking of weird nicknames.
as i worried about my prime # year, my sister got earrings punctured into her ear.
night creeps on but no one dares sleep, the're too busy, not counting sheep.
ideas of pencils and words through their mind, they think of new friends who fit their kind.
while the girls in engineering club are shooting, the owls at night are silently hooting.
Mindy popped 3 balloons while i popped four, and rachael was shooting at a alien at the door.
Irene shares an excitement that everyone has, because she has her friends in her class.
My bed has been made by my sister so true, she even made hers *and* the chinchin's too!
People are waiting for the alarm to ring, to wake up early finally with meaning.
With all new stuff that they can overuse, we can have a new excuse.
the orchestra room has been painted bright white, kids make the music colorful in spite.
the band got new music and new instruments too, painting their music with a colorful hue.
The choir decorated a bulletin board, and can't wait for students to sing a chord.
like if you want to go back to school, the yarn i have spun has come to the end of its spool.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
