Under the Camouflage

Poem Commentary

This is a poem written for my friend, who recently enlisted in the Army.

Under the Camouflage

Underneath the mask of camouflage,
A kind heart beats. A young man,
A brave man. Who will give his life
For his homeland. A man in love,
Who will dream of his girl while he's gone.
Power runs through his veins,
Patriotism fills his heart.
Underneath the mask of camouflage,
Is a man of honor, courage, and hope.

Underneath the brave exterior,
Lies a kind soul. A boy, just a boy,
Who hates causing pain. A boy
With fear. He knows not what
His future holds. Yet he's willing
To dance with death.
Underneath the brave exterior,
This is a boy with a dream.

Stand proud and tall,
Camouflage now part of you.
Representing the country you love
And the people you care about.
The only thing that can stop you now
Is the feeling in your heart.
Don't stop fighting for what you believe is
Right. Don't stop fighting for
What you love.
