    Poem Commentary

Ever had a fantasy about someone?

Why am I so in love?

Why am I so in love?
    I don't even know you.

One look in your eyes and I feel
Like I've seen through the windows of your soul.

All I have is a faint dream
    So blurry yet so vivid.

I hope you feel the same
But how could I ever know
    I don't even know you.

And you don't know me at all.
    I fear you never will.
And this will be another ghost
    Forever lingering
Haunting me about what could have been
    But will never be.
    It just can't happen.
Because you exist in my reality
As nothing more than a blurred vision
    A quaint idea
And if I were to but say a word
All of it would crumble down around me
And I would be left with a real live person
    Heart beating and all
And I'd wonder why I ever was so bewitched by this
    Human being
    So blunt and ordinary
    So clear to see
Nothing like he was in my dreams.
    And my fairytale prince
Of whom I dreamed and craved
    Will be lost forever
Being dispersed like dust into the air.

Why am I so in love?
    I  don't even know you.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
