Winter Comes But Once a Year

Winter comes but once a year,
With lots of pearly white snow,
    that glistens in the sunlight.

Winter comes but once a year,
    Bringing joy and happiness galore,
to all those that like to slide down hill.

Winter comes but once a year,
    temperature drops into the 30's,
great cuddling close with a loved one.

Winter comes but once a year,
lighting up the fireplaces all aglow,
    for warmth and roasting chestnuts.

Winter comes but once a year,
bringing the hope of a new year
and new beginnings for us all.

Thank you for your comments. I enjoy the snow also. I moved from Iowa back to Missouri about 2 years ago and see a lot less of the snow. But since I am retired, I am glad I do not have all the ice now. Thanks again for your comments. Did you read any of my other poems.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
