Without You

Poem Commentary

Shortly after my brother passed away we had to struggle through the holidays.  While having a late Christmas get together my brother-in-law yelled out my brothers full name.  Silence was in the air for a moment....maybe the silence was just heard by me as my mind searched for my brother.  My father-in-laws name is also Timothy & that is how the mix-up occured.  My brother-in-law and my brother are only a few weeks apart in age & we like brothers to each other, so he had yelled that name out many times.  I wrote this in the early a.m.  because I couldn't get that moment out of my head.  It seemed like a really long time, almost as if time had froze.

Without You

Tonight I heard your name called out.
For a moment I sat and looked about.
In hopes that I would see you there,
But all I saw was an empty chair.

What a christmas present that would be,
If God chose to give you back to me.
I took a deep breath and carried on,
But in my heart for you I longed.

I miss you so, I can not lie.
And it's hard for me not to cry.
I'm glad your in the place you are.
Even though you are so far.

It's hard to wait until I see you again,
But God gave me memories to hold of you until then.
Some make me laugh, some make me cry.
Some leave me feeling so empty inside.

But I try to stand up and brush those sad feelings away.
Because I have Gods promise to be with you again someday,
And on the days when I feel so sad and alone.
My memories of you helps me move on.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
