    Woman

    My insides are outside,
    and outside
I feel the pain inside. What's this bullshit
    telling me lies!
Guys won't like me unless I submit
    to artificial disguise?
The t.v. says I can be beautiful if
    I follow it's lead.
    Smear greasy makeup over exterior
    to enhance natures beauty,
    contort and distort
    comfy flat feet,
to give the illusion I'm taller
    than I appear to be?
    These Disillusioned messages
    are fucking with me!
    Why do I gotta re-arrange
the gorgeous being that I be?
I adore my natty dreads, brown skin,
    brown eyes. My african heritage
    is intelligent,strong and wise.
Totally equal to any fair skinned face,
    or male claiming omnipitence
    over my Goddess ways.
    The female species
is quite a misperception to me.
How can my sistas not see
    the Power WE posses
    collectively? Our mindful sexuality
makes us a coveted prize indeed.
    So please,
    don't give away precious gifts
    as if they were useless.
    Save them for a man
that knows how to respect it.
    Boys think it's their right
    to touch me hust because
    they wanna fuck.
When these boys aint worth five minutes
    of my time,unsatisfied.
    I'd rather be alone,
    then keep fake personalities
    for fear of dwelling solo.
    This spirit is free
    from that superficial reality.
    Oh my soul,
I can feel truth stating to unfold.
Feels like I'm knocking on heavens door.
    I'm gonna rise
    and take back former glory,
    'bestowed to my kind!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
