    You Were

You were not a passing ship in the night
You were someone warm, a friend
    More than a lover
Like a star lingering with the clouds
    That's us!
Through the windows connected to my soul
    You touched my heart
    Aroused hidden emotions to surface
Compassion consumed me all at once
    In you I see
    I sense
    I taste...um I like!
After all this time I'm glad we've grown
Past just being friends and lovers
    Belonging to no others

I think you are an emotional expresser. You really know how to put a person in your shoes. I personally think that you are neck & neck with Jill Scott, and she is one of my favarite lyricist. I enjoy reading your thoughts. Great job!

Good poem. You write so beautifully of love. Hope he knows how lucky he is. TS

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
