    Tonight

I am sad as you walk in the door
you didn't help me stay happy
And you promised me the world
when all you could give me was nothing
    never anything
    tears, sadness, frustration
frustration like when you plead to know the truth
the truth no one has ever said to that child
the child I once saw in the world a world
    who knew better than I
    and I,
    my heart need not know
    You,
    your soul not feel
So I am glad I was here when you walked out that door
I am so happy I waited until tonight

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
