A Song

Poem Commentary

I wrote this for a very inconsistent person, who made me start singing the same song with her.

A Song

I sat down in front of some keys

I saw you saying something

About it killing you softly inside

When I playfully asked why

You said it was just some song.

You uttered the shortest words I’ve ever known, or heard

Then you just left.

And just disappeared.

But in retrospect

What about all the deafening unsaid

And the lines on your wrist that I can never seem

To even dare read between

So I return to the keys

To the board

And go back on

Wondering if you will sing the song

And slowly

Without knowing

I begin to sing along.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
