    An Angels Pain

She never let people see her cry; never let them see her pain. But still she suffered tears falling like rain this poor little girl hid her feelings so well. A little girl acting like an angel from heaven. This little angel going through hell. As people smiled and laughed she tried to play along. By hiding behind an innocent smile. She kept the world from knowing what was wrong. No one suspected the smiles were fake. No one thought the laughs were forced. But as people believed she was perfectly fine this little angel went from bad to worse. When she cried in the shower tears were washed down the drain. And when she let others see her tears they thought her face was soaked by the rain. But as time went on she cried more and more. She’d wake up crying and would cry herself to sleep. Some people talk to friends to get rid of feelings but this girl she’d weep. Smiles kept away the questions. Laughs the fears. By keeping this masquerade, she kept people from thinking she’d drown in her tears. But by hiding everything no one could send help her way. Eventually she got tired of it all. She wanted her pain to end one day. One tragic day she let her mask sleep, he pain and suffering began to show in her eyes. So as she laughed and smiled someone began to see past the lies.

This was another angel who’d gone through hell too. Since he’d hidden things before, he saw through her mask to what was true. That day, when she left her friends, he made an excuse and said goodbye. There was pain and suffering he could see, but he didn’t know why. No one else could see it. He was the only one. Where he saw years of pain everyone else saw none. By following her that day he was the only one to see that misery and suffering was all she thought life would be. Crying in a corner was where she thought a real angel would come around. Seeing her cry all alone was when he understood that she’d never found someone to trust. But, with a mask she thought she could. He wanted to be that person for her. He wanted her understand so he sat down next to her and quietly took her hand. She thought he was an angel. “But where are your wings?” she asked. He told her he wasn’t an angel; just someone who saw the feelings she masked. Knowing that someone realized knowing that someone cared, let her move past the pain and cry without being scared. He held her as she cried let his tears begin to mix with hers. Her heart which she thought beyond repair, with his tears he began to fix. When she was through crying he helped her to her feet and still holding her hand he led her down the street. Now that he had found her, now that she had someone to trust, she knew that hiding her feelings was no longer a must. Now the laughs ring true.

Even the smiles show how she really feels. No one else noticed a difference. But her angel always at her side knows the smiles are real.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
