    Awakening

I've hardened myself to hold back the tears
The pain has diminished over the years
I've brought myself to the edge of death
Swearing to say your name with my last breath
Through it all I've learned a lot
I learned to hold what I've got
There may be nobody to take your place
I may love you throughout time and space
I loved you Carmella, maybe I still do
Memories are too painful, thinking of you
I believe in love, I'm one of the strong
I'm smart enough to admit our love was wrong
It's hard to admit my love was wasted
It's hard to believe the women I've tasted
Now feelings are tucked safely inside
Love may be over, but God what a ride!

Life is what you make it. Shame she can't read this to know how much you still think of her, it might make her smile.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.

    Walt Whitman, American Poet (1819-1892)
