    Change

    we change
    we change constantly
    from the outside in
but mostly from the inside out
    changes in chemical balances
cause a smile or, perhaps, a frown
    the balance scale tips
    and a sonnet is created
    or hormone flows increase
    and we dream of universes
    or forever love.
    electrical energy flows through neurons
and we plan to rearrange the furniture
we change the air in our lungs
    we change our breathing rate
    and we shed skin
    like a reptile, but
    in very small pieces
say, do you have change for a...
    we seek peaceful change
    but mostly that doesn't happen
but the only constant in the Universe is
    change
    and we can't change that
and nothing is fixed in place
    orbits within orbits
    universes within dimensions
    strings vibrate
    and particles disappear
    as we watch them
    and we change our mind
    figuratively and literally
    as we change clothes
    we can't stop changing
    we change constantly
    we change
    and we hope
the change is for the better
    that is at least possible
in a universe of infinite possibilities.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
