    Poem Commentary

Dedicated and in Loving Memory of Cpl. Pratt United States Marine Corps 2/1 Echo Company 2nd Plt. KIA Aug. 2nd 2004 in Al Fallujah Iraq.

    Cpl. Pratt

    Jumbled up in the head

Learning to live with the memories

    But days like today

    Bring me back

    To good Men

    Like Cpl. Pratt

    GOD rest his soul

He was just minding his own

    Cleaning his rifle

    When Death came from above

Taking him to the pearly gates

Leaving a younger version of me

    To carry the pieces

    Back to friendly lines

    Parts in a body bag

We shipped what was left of poor old Cpl. Pratt

    To his family

    Left in shock

    I carried on

    Still fighting

In the Battle of Al Fallujah Iraq 2004

I’ll never forget Cpl. Pratt or the others

    The Brothers I left behind

Been back home now for some time

    The names, the faces

    Will never escape my memory

Living on as a part of me

    Semper Fi

    Do or Die

    -Fin-

This is just wonderful from start to finish. Your respect and admiration of Cpl. Pratt comes through, as well as the resilience you showed to carry on, do or die. 10

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
