    Dead Cells Shed

    it is what it is
    what should never have been
    but has become
the mind forgets the years gone by
    the heart learns to forgive
through tears wishing to be shed
an anger held at bay by a spirit
of love within, despite the eternal sin
a loss like a kin closer than skin
dead cells shed beneath a tree
We've suffered through the deeds, watching
the weeds spread through eons of time, awaiting
    the new grasses growth

    it is what it is
    was what it was
    happened and happens each day
    we chase perfection and paradise
hoping for a return to the morning
    of a new day
born again from a new womb
    but it was and is
    gone . . .

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
