    • SOLAR SYSTEM The sun is in heaven beyond. The moon awakes elsewhere. The stars receive their light. Maybe to fall to earth in our sight. The other planets are not our lights. They are like the watchers. On a pale, blue night. Brenda G Radford Copyright ©2008 Brenda G Radford

    Death of Dad

    . DEATH OF DAD

    WHEN MY DADDY DIED
    I CRIED AND CRIED
    I THOUGHT OH MY GOD
I THOUGHT MY DADDY WOULD NEVER DIE

    I MOURNED AND I MOURNED
    AND MOURNED AGAIN
I STILL MOURN TIME AND TIME AGAIN
WHEN WILL I NOT MOURN AGAIN?
    NEVER, I SUPPOSE
    EVEN WHEN MOURNING HIS DEATH
IS WITH THE RESURRECTION OF HIS FLESH ?

I HAVE LEARNED TO CALL HIM MY EARTHLY FATHER
BECAUSE I ALREADY HAD A HEAVENLY FATHER
ONE WHO HAS BLESSED ME ALL MY LIFE
HAS FREED ME FROM YET DEATH AND STRIFE
AND WILL CONTINUE TO BLESS ME
    WITH THE ABILITY
TO MOURN THE DEATH OF DAD I PRAY
NOT WITH ANYTHING BAD I PRAY, I PRAY
NOT IN VAIN OR FILLED WITH PAIN TODAY
ABOUT THE DEATH OF MY DAD: I PRAY. (BY Brenda.G.Radford.)(C)2008

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
