Defense after Defense

Stones created from endless pain,
Bricks crafted from the darkest hatred,
Mortar made of the thickest blood,
Salt dried from the countless tears,
My great work is finally complete.

I built a wall around my heart,
But love found its way in,
Over the wall it came to me,
And it made me feel wonderful,
Made me feel like I belonged.

But the love that came soon left,
Leaving my heart broken and shattered,
How could it have been so foolish?
To fall so hard of its own free will,
Knowing that it would shatter.

I tried to build the wall higher,
But it failed time after time,
Always the love would find me,
Always it would shatter me to dust,
And I would be left alone and jaded.

I have never sought to fall in love,
Never intended it to happen,
But countless times I have fallen,
And broke as a branch in a storm,
Shattered as a mirror flung at a wall.

I collect the pieces of my broken heart,
Always a few are missing and lost,
And placed them within my greatest work,
A perfect sphere with no entrance or exit,
A perfect sphere of defense and protection.

With every beat of my shrunkin heart,
I hope love never finds a way in,
For I have grown tired of picking up the pieces,
Grown tired of the pain and remorse,
And I havent the will to piece myself together again.

So within my sphere of defense I live,
Until the day that I die I will stay,
Safe and protected from suffering,
Nothing can shatter my heart again,
Alone within my sphere I will remain.
