    Endings

    The child of smeared lipstick
    and a thin leather band
    Love cut to the quick
Living cracked mouth to worn hand
    Hot asphalt burning callouses thick
    Summer's heedless hastened air grand
Innocence in ignorance gone with a flick
Just that one last grain of sand
The straw that broke the dam
An American suburban dream with a twist
The childish need to ride with the wind
Power more than he knew with his fist
And somewhere there was a convoluted grin
Broken deep in an adulterous mist
Tired and ended before it would begin
A silent sinking ship with naught but a list
The end of the beginning of the end
    A shadowy misunderstood protagonist
Dying to be camouflaged, to blend
Never comprehending the meaning, the gist
A gross malformation of a man
Hiding obscurely in the best of the best
Blissfully unaware of the impact of his plan
No thought that it would put his seed to the test
    Imagining irrationally that they'd understand
Think he was gifted, claim he was blessed
Assuming they'd even be able to stand
Eventually define themselves despite his mess
That all stemmed from his hatred of land
    The controlling confines gravity possessed
And this is the hatred in which I
    it?
    began

I really like this. Moving and raw-ish, very good.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
