    Fear

    Fear is a terrible judge.

    Fear is an unsound counselor.

In all matters of thought and reason.

Both kind and familiar to people.

Fear grips our minds and immobilizes our ability to understand what is happening.

    Both inside and outside ourselves.

Moving us closer to that ancient core bundle of nerves.

That once ruled all our actions by unconscious impulse.

Fear mutes our capacity to reason and perceive and understand.

Why then is it sometimes used as a tool?

To carve out a place for ourselves in this world.

Especially when we must often reject that most conscious part of our body to use it.

Is it a conscious choice, or do we loose the ability to reason without cause?

And if we do loose it so easily.

Can we really say we ever had it at all?

Or have we just been pretending?

If we ever do loose the ability to reason, what will bring us back (if at all)?

I am not afraid to ask (reason and question).

I am afraid not to ask (reason and question).

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
