This is only a fictional story...

    Forgiveness

    FORGIVENESS

You are my hero said the little kid

To the father that beat him senseless

You are my daddy will you hold me?

I know you did not mean to hurt me

Next day drunk after work he hit him again

He made the kid bleed, he caused so much pain

Still the little boy limped to the edge of his bed

He did not hate him; he kissed him good night instead

Day after day this went on, the torment the abuse

Yet the little boy carried on as he did not want to loose

The father that made everyone at school notice, but it was useless

The boy said he fell down, that is how he got his bruises

A slap in the face, a kick in the head

No toys, no bedtime story, not even a piece of bread

Good night daddy, I know you love me too

You just don’t know it yet but I know you really do

Late at night the father was at a strip bar

With money in his pocket after payday

He bought liquor and sex; he felt like a star

spent every penny, he still wanted to stay

Bouncers kicked him out, he had no more money

He drank himself silly, he spent every penny

Mad at the world, he went back to the house

He would take his anger on someone, of that there was no doubt

But earlier that day, the boy came back from school

He was so happy; he had scored the highest grade in a test

He was awarded a free dinner and was wearing a star on his chest

He could not wait for his dad to come home; his dad would think this was so cool

Six pm turned to seven and eight and midnight and two in the morning

The little boy could not longer stay up; he passed out on top of the chase

They suddenly a loud noise broke the silence without any warning

Dad was home and boy jumped up from the chair and reached for an embrace

    “Look dad, I got a price – I got a perfect score…”

The boy could not finish his sentence, a fist met his head

The boy was not moving, he simply roll on the floor

Then he stopped moving; his father just went to bed

The son struggled to get up; he did but was dizzy

His patience tank finally reached empty

He went to the kitchen and looked for a knife

He thought about it long and hard, he would now take a life

Would it be his or would it be his father’s?

He could not understand, others had not bothers

All he wanted was for his dad to love him

All he wanted was for his dad to stop hurting him

Knife in hand he went into the bedroom

The room where he was beaten over and over again

The room where the sun never shined, the room filled with rain

The room where soon the root of all his pain would meet its doom

Closer and closer he approached the bed where he slept

The bed were often he himself cried and wept

Closer he got to do what he knew was wrong

Help me someone, I really don’t want my dad to be gone

I forgive you dad, I do, I forgive you for everything

Then the son noticed something totally unexpected

He saw no movement; his dad was not breathing.

He had to do nothing, his dad was already dead.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
