RE: Calling All Poets (Christmas Poems)

"A Crazy Christmas"

The Christmas party is just an hour away,
The guests will be arriving any minute.
The children are laughing, all busy at play,
Eying their presents and guessing what's in it.
***
Grandma and Grandpa are the first to arrive,
Carrying bags full of gifts and holiday cheer.
Grandma hugs all the kids with joy in her eyes,
While Grandpa takes care of the wine and the beer.
***
The In-Laws are usually a half hour late,
And Cousin Melanie comes in just behind.
They all complain about the roads in this state,
Would it kill them to plow and put up a sign?
***
Then it's sister Sara and her husband Tom,
They always ring the bell and run back to the car.
Forever forgetting something, they're both so blonde,
And just a little drunk from their stop at the bar.
***
Brother Paul whistles carols as he walks in the door,
With his new lover Jim - the prize catch of the day.
Says he met him while shopping at the Christmas store,
Isn't he just Fab? he asks, as he proudly displays.
***
Brother Harold, our family's very own Preacher,
Arrives at the door with a box full of bibles.
He stands on a chair like a keynote speaker,
While telling us stories of Jesus's trials.
***
Uncle Bob dressed as Santa, finally arrives,
And all the kids rush to gather by his side.
They squeal with delight and surprise in their eyes,
As they tear the paper to reveal what's inside.
***
The women all in one room, men in another,
Drinking their Christmas cocktails, laughin' and munchin'.
Women chattin' 'bout shopping, shoes and each other,
Men 'bout stock markets and the big game that's soon comin'!
***
This may all seem silly or just a bit crazy,
But, I would not trade it in for anything
It's the one time of year that means so much to me,
Spending Christmas Day with my own crazy family!
***

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
May God bless Us All! smile

Merry Christmas

Make retailers lock their doors
Every single hour today
Rest weary minds .. tired feet
Returns will be taken back tomorrow
Yuletide rules today .. all day

Christ was born .. many can attest
Holiday .. majestic peace .. for some
Roads .. highways .. traveled less
Inca .. Blue Inca Nights dance in my head
Shoppers day off .. commercialism lives
Take a tree from the forest .. celebrate life
Make believe life is good for everyone
Arrange a soup line .. feed the hungry homeless
Sing a song together .. John Lennon's .. War Is Over

RE: SnowPoets, Our help is needed for so many, We Will Make a Difference

Here is a brief article about so many needy kids that sent in letters to Santa, not asking for gifts but for basic needs, like coats, boots and even paying electric bills....Though we did not get the book out in time this year as we started a bit late to reach our original goal to help those in need who ask this Christmas, I know with all our efforts and donations to make the SnowPoets book a wonderful best seller we will be able to help even more needy children before next Christmas and during next Christmas. With the help from people like Pete Fontana from USA Today(whom we are reaching out to and contacting now) one of Santa's elf's. With his voice(which is heard world wide) and our book we will help as many needy Children as we possible can.....We the Poets of the loving, caring OP Family WILL AND CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE..even if it is a small one by comparison to other charity organizations, we will not be counted as less then mighty in our own special way with the power of our pens and words......I believe in each and everyone of you with your mighty pens will add more to the book and help to raise the selling price so we can give more money to help.......The more poems and art we put into the book the better it will be.

NEVER SAY NEVER, AND NEVER THINK THAT WE CAN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN EVEN ONE CHILD'S LIFE. FOR WE AS A WHOLE WITH OVER 40,000 MEMBERS IN OUR OP FAMILY SOCIETY ARE TRULY MIGHTY

As long as you keep writing and sending them in, The SnowPoets team will do our part and keep adding, designing, laying them out, editing them into the book. No poem submission will be turned down, (unless of course they are offensive..hehe) With all of us, John E. WordSlinger, Madelynn, Dano, Dr. Paul Coates, me Asha, Angel the Poem Buster plus all of you here at OP donating your hard work it will be great.

Also because we will have two SnowPoet's editions (Volume one SnowPoets & Selected Christmas Verse, Plus, SnowPoets Mr. & Mrs. Claus edition, for adult themed poems, it will be even better) So no poem will be be turned away, we will have poems themed for children and adults both in two volumes. So whatever style of writing you prefer we can use it in the SnowPoets Books.

Blessing to each and everyone of my OP Family for your support......keep em coming as I have plenty of time here to work on it........love asha

Here is the article and a link to it so you all can check it out and see what new news comes up.........thanks to allred facered facered facered facesmilesmilewinkwinkrolleyesrolleyeskisskiss

By Donna Leinwand, USA TODAY
Santa Claus and his elves are seeing more heartbreaking letters this year as children cite their parents' economic troubles in their wish lists.

U.S. Postal Service workers who handle letters addressed to Santa at the North Pole say more letters ask for basics — coats, socks and shoes — rather than Barbie dolls, video games and computers.

At New York City's main post office, Head Elf Pete Fontana and 22 staff elves will sort 2 million letters in Operation Santa, which connects needy children with "Secret Santas" who answer their wishes.

MORE: Armies of Santas answer Christmas call

Fontana, a customer relations coordinator for the Postal Service, has been head elf for 15 years.

"The need is greater this year than I've ever seen it," he says. "One little girl didn't want anything for herself. She wanted a winter coat for her mother."

MAP: Post offices participating in Operation Santa
GIFT GUIDE: Christmas books for children
ECONOMY CLUES: Watch the bras

At more than 20 post offices, workers log every letter, black out identifying information except first name and age, and ask the public to respond. Lobby displays promote the program. People return with gifts and letters, which carriers deliver.

Cesar, 7, wrote for himself and his baby sister.

"This year my moom don't have much money to spend on Christmas gifts so I'm writing to you," Cesar told Santa. "It would make us very happy if you and your elves would bring us toys and clothes."

There are more letters from unemployed parents asking for kids' gifts they can't afford, says Darlene Reid of New York City's main post office.

One mom sent a turn-off notice from the electric company, Fontana says. A single mother of a girl, 8, and a boy, 2, wrote that she recently lost her job. "I am unable to buy my children toys and clothes," she said. "Santa may you help me with my family?"

Tough times are shrinking the number of Secret Santas, Fontana says. Meanwhile, "the percentage of people who need help has increased," says Mark Reynolds at the Postal Service's Chicago district, and about half the letters won't get answered.

Melanney, 9, asked Santa for a coat and boots. "I have been a very good girl this year," she wrote.

RE: Calling All Poets (Christmas Poems)More Info of Charity Needs

According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, the United States had 902,270 public charities in 2006. You can choose to give you money to help build houses for the poor, find cures for diseases, protect endangered animals, or help children learn to read. The problem isn’t finding a charity to support, but narrowing down your options and choosing the one you find most worthy.
Of the almost one million charities registered in the U.S., many support children in one way or another. If you want to use your charitable dollars to help children, which is the best charity to choose? It can be a very difficult decision.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The one in five American children who live in poverty are at heightened risk of stunted growth, less education, and lower earnings  problems with sweeping consequences for the nation. indent
* For every year that 14.5 million American children continue to experience poverty, their lifetime contribution to the economy will decline by an estimated $130 billion because poor children grow up to be less educated, less productive workers.
* A baby born to a poor mother is more likely to die before his or her first birthday than a baby born to a high school dropout, an unmarried mother, or a mother who smoked during pregnancy.
* Poverty is a greater risk to children's overall health than is living in a single parent family, according to government researchers.
* Even within the same family, children born into periods when the family was poorer tend to finish less schooling than their brothers or sisters born into periods of greater family prosperity, according to recent studies. These sibling studies are among the strong new evidence that poverty itself  not ingrained parental flaws  does lasting damage to children's chances to succeed, prosper, and contribute to society.
Just a brief glimpse of what our goal is.......To reach out and find the charity that we can help the most with the proceeds of our SnowPoets books...It seems so small by comparison but every single dollar counts to those in need........love asha
Poetry is what gets lost in translation.
Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
