Friends and Motives

No matter if you're single
No matter if you're not
I only want to be a friend
and that can mean a lot.

Don't care if you're a husband
Or even someone's wife,
I only want to help my friends
To deal with all their strife.

To be an ear which listens
When skies are only gray,
Or that supporting shoulder
To help in dreary days.

Or talk about some subject
That no one else will touch,
The subjects have no limit
When friends are viewed as such.

I know of all the reasons
That others may not trust
And they who do not know me
React the way they must.

But when respect for others
Is formost in your heart,
A friend is never closer
Yet still is far apart.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
