The Cycle

The Cycle

Guess you could say I woke up
In the middle of the day...
Became aware of those before me
and what they had to say.

The ones who came before me said
To always look behind
To teach and guide those younger
Of history to remind.

The cycles of our lifetimes are
Entwined in young and old
Forming strands of knowledge passed
That shine as polished gold.

But when this cycle's broken, then
The knowledge soon is dead
The alchemy of history turn
Our future gold to lead.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
