    Poem Commentary

This poem is based on my observations of a painting.

    Gaze upon Wonderment

    Gaze upon wonderment.

Girl with the long blonde hair, sit’s gazing idly out the bay window.

Thoughts of Disney land, waltzing with Mickey, and flying high above the atmosphere

a dancer with no audience. Decked out in astronaut gear one hand holding her oxygen tightly

to her body, spear in the other to protect from the mighty white knight demons.

Horse hair bristle brushes and the operations left to be hindered.

Soaring quickly she darts away from the yellow fire as it chases her across the night sky.

Her brushes leaving splashes of color, which only dull in comparison to the Aurora Borealis in August.

The milky persuasion, clouds dense with gasses creating magnificent colored cascades of intoxication.

The return trip to planet earth the emerald green covering her lawn in rich morning dew.

Staring at the easel she remembers her instructor’s lessons, isles of bloodshed course through her memories, wars between the Celts and the Brits. Things she learned in History class full of senseless violence, sorrowfully reflecting on the lives lost. She begins to paint her brushes swathing colors in angry strokes.

A mighty Percheron emerges, a stallion with a proud stance, body of golden trampling the death rising to live.

Splotching the horse with red, black and blue, vividly detailing the blood spatters which only serve as reminders, expressions of agony.

Her personal pain when the recruiter called her dad and he never came back. She paints skulls of the lost decaying in multitudes of grey the significance of death, we are all entitled.

With shattered hands and feet displaying, two white doves spiral to their death, and the only thing left alive is the proud blood splattered Percheron.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
