    Happy Halloween

What can I be for Halloween?
I want something scary to make my friends scream!
An ugly old mask with a great big huge snout
With sharp, pointy teeth and a tongue that lolls out.
I'll get fake fingernails for claws on my hands
I'll wear torn ragged clothes and shoot rubberbands.
I'll growl and I'll snarl as I walk up the street
And I'll scare the whowhatsit out of all that I meet.
I'll creep up on the porch of the neighbor next door
I'll try to miss planks that will creak on the floor.
I'll reach up to the bell with a horrible claw.
But the door slowly opened, you can't guess what I saw...
An ugly old mask with a great big huge snout
With sharp, pointy teeth and a tongue that lolled out
Fake fingernails for claws...but he's bigger than me!
I let out a scream and I ran, now I see
There are other cool heros and costumes to wear
Next year I'll be better...and bigger, I swear!!!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
