    Poem Commentary

This is my first attempt at writing a poem, I welcome all honest and constructive comments.

    Heart in a Shadow

    It’s hard living in darkness

When you know the hands that cast the shadow

When eyes have an absence of love

    Hope is a fruitless virtue

a downward spiral greets a cry for help

My eyes have seen many winters

but none as cold as this

When hands that were to protect

    are clenched in hateful anger

    an absence of compassion

    When eyes that were bright

    are dark with deception

    I sit in the darkness

    Cast by once tender hands

                once loving eyes

How can I lift my hands

to defend against such hands and eyes?

    I can’t help but surrender

    To living in darkness

This was amazingly powerful and it had such a deep meaning, its hard to believe that the ones we used to love can be the very ones that have us feeling trapped.....I loved it and I hope u continue to write....

I know this darkness, too well. Thankfully, I managed to escape it years ago, and only the scars remain. I hope you have as well.

You certainly are no novice to writing poetry, this is well expressed. Good work.

And soon you fall in love with it.....hugging it close as the only love you know. I know this well. You explain this well, showing feeling of sorrow, yet we must continue on. Such frustration. Well written.
