Poem Commentary

fighting to find oneself after being lost to life and marriage

Hiding In The Shadows

How long have you been hiding eyes cast down
not wanting anyone to know you; staring at the ground

Watching life from the sidelines, through half-closed eyes

making sure you go unnoticed, so no one hears your cries

Getting breakfast on the table, making sure the house is clean

lunches made, kids out the door, praying no one makes a scene

Your family life keeps you on your toes, the way you multitask

but you can't wait for them to leave, so you can take off your mask

Search your heart for answers, decide what it is you need

It's hard, but put YOU first, for once before you proceed

Sometimes the life we live, isn't the life we should be living

perhaps you have bestowed to yours all you could have given

You need to look deep to find the courage, realize all your fears.

So take off the wretched blinders, before you slowly disappear.
