I Gave Myself To You

Poem Commentary

This was written about/for my ex-husband. I wrote it when I finally hit the angry point about his treatment of me.

I Gave Myself To You

I am woman I feel everything.
I am hurting and you don't feel my pain.
You choose everything but the one who loves you.
You choose everything but the one who cares.

You say I betrayed you,
And yes that may be true.
But your betrayal baby,
It was more complete.
I gave myself to you,
And then I gave you more.

You say you'll be paying for 4 or more,
You say you can't dream now
I haven't dared to dream in years
And you've sentenced me to a life-term in hell.

You say I betrayed you,
And yes that may be true.
But your betrayal baby,
It was more complete.
I gave myself to you,
And then I gave you more.

I never wanted to love you.
Never wanted to care
But like a thief in the night
You stole my heart.
I gave you my body,
I gave my my mind,
But like a thief in the night,
You stole my heart.

You say I betrayed you,
And yes that might be true.
But your betrayal baby,
It was more complete.
I gave myself to you,
And then I gave you more.

Fantastic. I love the way you described betrayal. It was eloquent and heartbreaking at the same time. Well done.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
