If My Eye Be Single

If My Eye Be Single

If Thine Eye Be Single

It shall be full of light. (Mathew).

Thank you Father for your mercy

For in it lies my longing hope

To stay the cold cold sea

Of my chaos prone imaginings

Imaginings that holiness deplores

That I both love, despise

That so enslaves my freedom

Seducing  me to see with double eyes.

And yet I believe the son will rise

And burn to ashes strewn the foe

And melt to dying mist the abyss

And singleness of sight I’ll know.
