    Images of Childhood

Memory like a stream flows into my consciousness
    already saturated  with vivid imageries
    from a shirtless barefooted childhood
    like canvass to the painter
my strokes are the broad recollections of
    a once peaceful past...
the boy armed with a penknife
and an ample zeal to assuage his thirst

I see gleeful eyes on my climb up
the grove of orange trees festoned
    with countless ripened fruits
as I pranced about in the frenzy of choosing
    which to pick first...
I could hear the juicy contenment of my belly and heaving...
the signal for the artful descent to earth.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
