It Used To Be

It Used To Be

It used to be a way back then
That a mile was worth the travel
But now the trip ain't worth the time
If all our roads are gravel
It used to be we'd go to gramma's
And wait for afternoon lunch
But now it's turned to fastfood ally
And for sure we take the whole bunch
It used to be "Just take your time"
We'll catch you on the rebound
But now we want it really fast
Like a fox being chased by a hound
It used to be "I like my place"
I'll think I'll hang around and be content
But now it's every second counts
Everything has to be well spent
It used to be "Love Thy Neighbor As Thyself"
Tryed to put youself aside
But now it's "Me O Lord, Look My Way"
There is nothing about me you need to hide
It used to be "In God We Trust" we used to say
And trusting Him is where we'd glory
But now we have our own path to fame
Forgetting what He's done for us...
The Grand Old Story

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
