light switch

Lights out.
Parents, yelling, screaming, tears.
Pull the cover of hatred over my face.
Endure.
No peace.
No sanctity.
Head for school.

Lights on.
Dance, theatre, voice, dance, voice.
Passion.
English, math, biology, school.
Stress.
Friends, laughter, joking.
Short, but sweet release.

Lights out.
Expectations. Obligations. Fury.
What was there
Now lost
Tired of pretending
Anxiety
Just...Anxiety...Keeping the anxiety... End it.
Soon.

Lights on.
New person.
New physicality.
Words given to my mouth.
New feelings into my body.
A break.
Not me.
A whole new person.
Acting.

Lights out.
Forbidden.
Simply out of the question.
To knowingly hurt...
But it feels so right.
Never. Ever. Lose. Sight.
Of what feels right to your heart.
But no. Forbidden.

Lights on.
Second place?
Doesn't hurt
As much anymore.
I can cope.
But I'm in a basement.
The Lights are Out.
Ambrosia and Nectar...
Tempting.
Daring... Attempting... Not interested... Never interested... Yearning for the taste.
But resisting.

Lights out.
Lights on.

Eyes struggle to adjust.
Heart struggles to adjust.
Lights out.
Lights on.

This must end.
The Switch
Holds only two options.
Choose.

But once the switch
Is flipped...
Let it be.
Eyes will adjust.
Let the view stay simple.
If only for a short time.

Love can wait.
Life will not.♥

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
