    LIKE A FANTASY (FOR DLR)

He was never quite real to me, he was always more like a fantasy...
Someone to desire from a safe distance
The kind of man who melted all resistance.

He was the type who made you want to try
Riding a rainbow or touching the sky
His eyes held secrets I was afraid to discover; I was his friend
    and he wanted a lover.

At first it was so obvious (and everyone was watching us)
He held my hand, he kissed my lips
I wasn't sure I wanted this....it was too soon it was too quick
But he was never the kind to wait
So we were friends and love came too late.

He was never the one woman kind and I would've wanted him to be all mine; but he had quite a reputation and he was such a flirt
I clung to our friendship for protection and I was one of the few he didn't hurt.

He never was quite real to me - always just some kind of fantasy
So I kept him at a distance
I never let him know how easily he could have melted my resistance.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
