    Memories of You

    It's that old army tank,
    Sitting outside the Corrigan VFW.
    It's that folded American flag,
Perched on the fire place mantle.
It's all the old pictures of you,
    I find lying around.
It's the memories my heart keeps,
    Even more each day.
The reasons for not letting go?
    Maybe it's you.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
