    Metamorphosis

Like a leaf I fell from the tree of love
And like the wind you came along and swept me away and I was caught up in your world......
It was scary, at first, but what's worse than never falling at all- and being lonely
I ran to you like a child to its mother and smothered my face into your neck
only to find that it was cold and wet where the sweat settled from your dream
a dream unclean and blurry, so there's no need to worry
I could never hurt you so forget that dream and focus on the positive things that keep us together through all stormy weather
It was you I desired, only you lit my fire- but only YOU can put it out
And like the wind, no doubt, you blew again- a tornado of sorts and you knocked me down and hard I fell to the ground
And to look up into your face once filled with grace
was replaced with shame and disgrace
My flame for you was nothing but clouds of smoke that made me choke on words I couldn't find
I tried to rewind to see where things went wrong but pain throbbed through my head just imagining you in someone else's bed
I began to bleed tears after four and a half years and washed from my soul was the love I had inside for you
I suffered from a love concussion that could've led to a coma, but I was careful
See, once the smoke cleared, I was back on that tree, no not as a leaf but a caterpillar, you see wrapped in my cocoon hiding from the beautiful moon
And with a new me growing as an eligible bachelorette
Don't get me wrong- I can forgive, but I'll never forget
You did me wrong 'cause you made a mistake........
I must confess, so did I
The mistake of believing I could change you
The mistake of trying to hold on to someone that don't wanna be kept
The mistake of believing there was no hell
    'Cause you took me there
But I'm strong enough to carry on and with a blessed rebirth
I'll come out of my cocoon and at a half crescent moon......
I will fly to unbelievable heights

This is beautiful. I can feel your pain. Time heals all wounds.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
