    My Wish

I wish I had just one memory of your face
So I could replay it in my mind at anytime
Instead I have snapshots of you taken in many a place
Images that never really capture your grace.

My memory is fabricated from a 2-dimensional view
Never lived, but always dreamed of experiencing life with you.
Missed moments forever caught in time.
Wishing they were but knowing they’ll never be mine.

Running my hand lightly over your still face
Stopping where your smile once was,
    Discoloration has replaced.

Recalling stories from others who knew
    The greatness you embodied.
All too willing to recount the beauty of you.
    Overflowing with laughter and love
The stories erupt as if on cue

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
