    Nina Simone & You

I must confess that I’ve been hypnotized lately
    And drawn into Nina’s Tunes
It arouses a sentimental feeling, causing me to reminiscence
And to me, Nina’s playing in ode to you

Remember when we sat by my window
Eating ice cream in my kitchen?
As we listened to your favorite jump-off “Be My Husband?”

I still remember, although it was years ago,
Sitting in your room talking, laughing as I read to your soul
You played the perfect song for me to place a smile on my face
It was “I Want a Little Sugar in my Bowl.”

I remember when I was going through some tough times in my life
I remember you hugging me and holding my hand as I cried
Assuring me everything will be alright.
    “I Love You Porgy”
It was Nina Simone & U, right by my side

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
